Purpose driven life

1.       Background

Its a frequent question that people ask, “Who want to be in next 5 years, 10 year”. After 5 year there is another 5, and one fine day you will realize that there is no end to it. Life is full of goals and hurdles. The purpose driven life highlights that you are here in this world with a purpose. Not an accident, nor by luck or chance. Even if you are religious, or atheist who believes that it was a big bang with no big banger, you can still believe that there is a purpose to the life. In the theory of evolution, the evolution its self is through uses and abuses and adaption. So everything you have in your body, even as trivial as an eye lash has a purpose. There is nothing without a purpose.
I was born with a very small nose, I have been told that my grand mother massaged for many months to make my nose in shape. I am very proud of my grand mother and always grateful to her for what she has done. This year when I went to apollo clinic for travel medical check-up, the doctor told me that the shape of my nose is the reason for all my problems. The reason for my allergies, snoring and sleeplessness. It was supposed to be short!!! But its too late now, one day my daughters also will be sorry for their longer nose and they are going to be very proud of me then J

2.       Its not about me

We are all created with a vacuum in our heart. You will always feel that there is something more to it, and that thought will stop you experiencing the complete happiness. You may say that if I get 10000 more a month in annual appraisal you will be happy or get a promotion in two years. But how long the happiness will last, may be for few days or till you get the bill for the party that you’re thrown to your friends. Purpose driven life is all about attaining complete happiness and acquiring sense of contentment.

We are in a world everyone would like to be independent. We are not independent, but meant to be interdependent. Human beings are social animals and supposed to be happy in community. If you are someone not having food together with your family start doing it. If you don’t have a dining table at home, now is the time to buy one and invite your friends. I have been shy in my entire life, was someone running through the back door when some of our relatives visits our home. Always been suffocated with a crowd around, my life needs lots of change like few of us here.

Few years back I saw a TED video, It talked about a study conducted in US. A group of people were selected for the study, they were given 5 dollar and were asked to spend in whatever ways they can. In the evening they were measured how happy they were. Many people spent the money on buying breakfast, coffee etc. Few people spent on their loved ones, buying gifts or flowers. Very few came across people in needy and spent the money on them. The people who gifted the money on strangers who were in need were found to be the happiest and those who spent on themselves were least happy. The study also revealed that the happiness level they attained by this activity had positive effect on all other activities of the day in the same rate.So clearly happiness is not about me.

 3.       What is driving me?

In many cases we are not happy because what is driving me in life. Some people fear about failures, burden of expectation on them, might be driven by others, driven by materialism, driven by various sorts of addictions. The moments it’s an addiction you are driven by that object.
Some people are driven by hurt from their past, from their bitter experiences from the life. They are stuck in the past.
You need to drive by knowing your purpose to achieve the sense of contentment in life. You need your body and your soul in complete sync to reach the level of complete contentment with life in this world.

 4.       Meaning of life and purpose

We all have abilities; there are many unique abilities in us. Finger prints, retina, or DNA reveals that we are unique in this world. That means our purpose is also not same.

I chose my non computer science stream because my cousin did so. He later became an IT professional. I also followed. Funny thing is, he was already an IT professional before I started tracing his route.

You need to understand the abilities that you have and figure out your uniqueness to know your purpose in this life. Once you found out that, just use that to love others in whatever possible ways.

5       Love

Love has most corrupted meanings even in dictionaries.  It is mostly described as getting something, getting a pleasure, having a good feel etc. True love is about sharing, sacrificing, anything about giving but not getting. Most popular books of Vivekananda are Bhakti Yoga and Karma yoga. Bhakti is in fact the love to god. Karma is the love to fellow human beings. This is extremely important purpose for all, but varies only in which ways you could better do it with your gifts.

6.       Thank you

I have no intention to make you a religious fanatic or a mental with this topic. Bible says that if you seek you will find it. So seek for your purpose, love others and stay content in all your situations of life.

Close your eyes and make a balance sheet in your mind. See where you are spending your money and efforts in last one month or last week. See where you are and how you can improve.

I would hope some of you could try practising this and make this world a better place. If you come across someone needy help them, see the shine in their eyes.
Love you all and stay blessed.
